Before You Were Born
An enlightening journey into
prenatal psychology. Perfect for anyone educating or supporting pregnant
families or infants. Also perfect for those who desire to revisit or heal their
own conception, gestation, or birth.
Better Birth Outcomes: Gentle Touch®
During Pregnancy
How to blend the
elements of the Gentle Touch® Parent-Child Program together
for the "vulnerable" pregnant woman, baby, and family. Teaches the
use of prenatal mental health based counseling and can include pregnancy
massage.
Creating Closeness from the
Beginning
Training for those
who educate and support new parents so that parents can (1) create a nurturing
environment in which parent and child can positively bond and attach, and (2)
understand, respect, and respond to infant communication from the beginning.
Participants will learn a sequence of strokes along the Gentle Touch®
Parent-Child Program "Touch Continuum" that is appropriate for newborns. In addition, they
will learn how to facilitate healthy family adaptation via family-centered
practices, and how to self-nurture.
Training for NICU
personnel who wish to offer appropriate touch. Participants will learn a
sequence of strokes along the Gentle Touch® Parent-Child Program "Touch
Continuum" that is appropriate
for sick or vulnerable newborns. Includes training in prenatal and infant
mental health, sensory integration, developmentally supportive care, and
family-centered care.

Training in a 6 hour
curriculum (no massage) for pregnant, adopting, and new parents.

Discussion will
focus on the prenatal, perinatal, and neonatal causes of vulnerability,
incorporating prenatal and infant mental health and a systems approach. Lecture
and demonstration will focus on ways to strengthen the infants' resiliency and
promote the caregiver's sensitive responding. Sensory integration, state
modulation, infant communication, and nurturing caregiving will be covered.
Keys to Successful Interactions
with Parents
How to facilitate healthy family adaptation through
effective family-centered therapeutic and supportive practices.
Cradling Love
How to design ceremonies for pregnancy, birth,
welcoming and loss. Excellent for childbirth educators and supporters,
maternity and mother-baby residences, adoption personnel, social workers, or
spiritual groups.
Family-Centered Care
Consultation to
strengthen and integrate family-centered
principles and practices into policies and procedures is available to medical practices,
hospitals,
residential facilities, and agencies. Please inquire.
About the Trainer:
Emma Miller, D.Div., created the Gentle Touch® Parent-Child Program in 1993. She is an international
trainer and program consultant, conference speaker and workshop leader. Author
and co-producer of the Gentle Touch® Infant Massage Video, as well as author of articles
in professional, parenting, and massage publications, Emma has had numerous
media exposures (including Child Magazine, 11/97) and program
endorsements. She holds certifications as a N.C. Infant/Toddler/Family
Specialist, an Infant Massage Instructor, a Nursing Child Assessment Satellite
Training (NCAST) Instructor, and in Pre- and Perinatal Massage, and is an
Interfaith Minister. Active in numerous organizations related to parent and
child issues, Emma has worked in hospital, pediatric practice, mental health,
substance abuse, developmental disability, child development, residential
treatment facility, social service, and family development institute settings.
Her goal is to promote the competence of the child, nurturing parenting, strong
family life, and a responsive system of care. Her focus is on serving all
families but especially "vulnerable" ones, prenatal and infant mental
health, and family-centered practices.
